Managing Creativity in Small Worlds

چکیده
I t’s no secret that the world is shrinking. The “death of distance” has had a profound impact on invention, innovation, and business, as many before us have noted. Historically, engineers and scientists have worked within local clusters of collaboration that were generally isolated within firms (and even within divisions of firms). However, as inventors have become increasingly mobile, these formerly isolated clusters have begun to aggregate into massively connected networks such as the one illustrated in Figure 1. Both the size and density of this network illustrate today’s interconnected, multiorganizational web of technological search and competition, in which information and personnel flow more freely between firms. Firms no longer invent in isolation—they now invent in a small world.

Supporting Collaborative Creativity with Educational Visualizations in 3D Virtual Worlds
Social media are known for substantial creativity support, as they allow users exploring, creating, and sharing various types of content. Social 3D virtual worlds, such as Second Life, can also be seen as a social media that have wide possibilities for being creative. In this paper, we explore how 3D virtual worlds can support creativity in educational settings, including creativity of the coll...
متن کاملFostering Team Creativity in Virtual Worlds
This article addresses the potential of virtual worlds as a platform for creative team collaboration. The proliferation of geographically distributed teams, striving towards innovative results, calls for ICT that support team creativity. Three-dimensional virtual worlds represent such an emergent and rapidly developing collaboration tool. A systematic literature review was conducted to reveal t...
متن کاملArtificial Life Meets Computational Creativity?
I review the history of work in Artificial Life on the problem of the open-ended evolutionary growth of complexity in computational worlds. This is then put into the context of evolutionary epistemology and human creativity. ∗Parts of this text are based on a book chapter, co-authored with Wolfgang Banzhaf, for the forthcoming Springer Handbook of Natural Computing (Rozenberg et al., 2010). †ht...
متن کاملData management in Distributed Shared Virtual Worlds
Research efforts in Virtual Worlds domain have been mainly devoted to user interfaces, communication supports and consistency issues. To the best of our knowledge, no works clearly focused on the global problem of managing virtual world’s data. The promise of future large persistent virtual worlds, evolving during a long period of time and with large number of participants makes the question of...
